Before David Saltaformaggio ever represented a plaintiff, he had already seen the maritime and insurance world from nearly every other angle: as an underwriter, a claims manager, and a defense attorney.
That background is exactly what he brings to his clients today.
A New Orleans native and Jesuit High School graduate, David studied Risk Management and Insurance at the University of Georgia before returning home to work as a commercial underwriter.
That experience gave him an early understanding of how insurers think – one he would spend the next several years deepening from the inside.
While earning his law degree at Loyola University New Orleans College of Law through the evening division, David worked full-time as Claims Manager for a local marine underwriter, handling maritime personal injury and property damage claims from investigation through resolution.

After graduating, he joined a prominent New Orleans defense firm, representing maritime employers, vessel owners, and insurers in personal injury and coverage litigation. He was later selected for secondment to a Lloyd’s of London syndicate, where he served as in-house counsel advising the London insurance market on U.S. litigation.
After seven years on the defense side, David joined The Voorhies Law Firm, bringing with him a uniquely complete picture of how maritime and insurance claims are built, defended, and resolved.
David is a member of the Louisiana State Bar and Federal Bar Associations and is licensed to practice in all Louisiana state courts, the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern, Middle, and Western Districts of Louisiana, the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.
